Dexter Chardonnay 2022

Description

96 Points – Jane Faulkner

Dexter Wines is the personal project of Tod Dexter who has several decades experience in the Mornington Peninsula, most notably as head winemaker at Stoniers and then Yabby Lake. Suffice to say, Tod brings considerable winemaking pedigree to his venture that is reflected in the exceptional quality of the Dexter wines.

The 2022 Dexter Chardonnay is another refined, vibrant Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay that offers up plenty of complex, nutty, white peach flavours with restrained oak playing merely a support role. An outstanding cool-climate Chardonnay that will only bolster the reputation of this producer.

“96 Points. Walks a tightrope with acidity yet layers of flavour on either side stretch out accentuated and long. Expect citrus and a snip of fresh herbs with lots of savoury inputs from the toasty oak but also crushed rocks and smoky sulphides. It has power yet a certain elegance, too. Screw cap. 13% alc. Drink: 2023 – 2032. $50”- Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion 2024.

“95 Points. It’s a tightly wound chardonnay with stacks of greener spectrum stone fruit characters, not green green but peaches and nectarines when they’re still really firm. A touch of grapefruit in the mix, a wash of crushed rock minerals, faint nougat and cashew with some of that wet fern character in there too, if ya get my drift. It’s flavoursome but racy, skittish even, skids across the palate with ultra-refreshing vibes and trails away all minerally and long. It’s really good. Tasted: May 23. 23 13% alc. $49 Screwcap Drink: 2023 – 2030+”- Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
